Question

Are fruits and vegetables that grow on the balcony or inside the house subject to ma’aserot?

Answer

Rabbi Yehuda HaLevy Amichay

For fruits and vegetables that grow inside the house, you should take terumot and ma’aserot without a blessing. For fruits and vegetables that grow in an open balcony, however, you would take terumot and ma’aserot with a blessing. This is provided that you live within the borders of olei Bavel; if you live in the olei Mitzrayim area, however, you should take terumot and ma’aserot without a blessing.
